MTV / 2005 - 2006
After a few years working as an AD on numerous magazines from computer tech, hard science to youth culture street rags, I got a gig working for MTV’s new mag in 2006. It had a short lived time (legal disagreements around licensing), but before it got shut down I output a few good features here and there that really helped me decide doing creative more conceptually based. I’d realized after working for a few years that just following trends and styles was a dead end. It was fun, but pretty empty fulfillment wise. Taught me the importance of tonal consistency. Having a magazine that went from Paris Hilton pop bubble gum to Radiohead was difficult for an audience. A symptom of MTV at the time stopping being about music, and starting to be about stupid reality tv bullshit. Anyhow, yet again another no budget, no time kinda thing but hey, what’s new. Looking back through old files recently, I realized, some of it isn’t as bad as I thought. Decided to put it up to show how long I’ve been at the grindstone.
