NYLON Magazine

During my early years working I did a LOT of youth culture stuff. I was starting to get a teeny tiny reputation in Sydney as being a creative with many different skills and interests, as well as being cheap. I didn’t know any better and was just happy to be doing cool stuff with cool brands. Anyhow, after doing some work for Ministry of Sound and some other music brands I got into connection with a few people, branded a well known DJ, few album covers for now forgotten acts and did Nylon’s stuff for a little bit. Not heaps, but helped them get the Australian version of the magazine off the ground. Worked with the ladies starting it up, and I still kind of love this piece I did. A mural made up of traditional ‘antique’ representations of women and beauty - to juxtapose NYLON’s modernity. Something I’m not certain I would ever be able to work on in the current climate of gender wars and ideological division. I had to scan a hundred or so scratchboard illustrations to make this happen. Just a collage, but damn, a hard one.
